Did you catch the FlashForward – the season so far – recap on ABC last night?
Great stuff – in one hour it captured all the major plotlines of the story so far and succinctly summarized them.
We watched the recap along with someone that hadn’t seen a single episode before – and now she can and is likely hooked too.
Probably a good idea for other shows with long breaks and deep plots to take a similiar tact.
No we don’t know who is behind the Black out – other than it’s D Gibbons.

Man is Caprica a slooooow show. This past week’s episode The Imperfections of Memory did however fill on some key new dramatic points.
Joseph Adama has finally made it into V-world which is great, but we suspect they’re going to stretch it out until he actually finds Tamra – maybe 6 episodes from now at the current sloooow pacing of this show.
And finally after all this time, Daniel Greystone has finally realized that the Zoe is the cylon — but only thanks to the dog.
Lots of depth to this show, but probably a bit too much complexity to make this show have a decent pacing.
Were it not for the Battlestar Galactica connection, we’d give up on this show – at least as a weekly concern. Watching two or three episodes at a time with the fast forward button ready to go is probably the best way to watch this show now.

Yeaah we’re exciting about TR2N now renamed Tron Legacy.
In every way possible this new movie will the successor to Tron – it will followup on its story and it’s incredible graphics too.
Just watched the lastest trailer and yeah we’re more excited now than we were before — only bad thing is we all have to wait until December 2010 until this movie is out in the theater.
Caprica – Know Thy Enemy – Vergis vs. Graystone who will win? March 8, 2010

Yeaah Caprica is still a slow and plodding show. But its depth of plot complexity is interesting.
This week’s episode – Know Thy Enemy -didn’t include anything on Tamra Adama, which we were really hoping for.
Instead we get Vergis — the Tauron businessman that is now out to destroy Greystone — need stuff and kind of fun – though in a very civilized sort of way.
Of course Greystone will sell the Bucks to Vergis – just a matter of time right? But will it ever be tied back to Joseph Adama? we’ll see.
Oh and how about that neat little side trip – with Zoe connecting with Philomon on the holobands? cutesy but fun right?

Sooo much going on in this one issue it’s hard to review, but also ooooooh so enjoyable.
We finally find out who is behind the Vongforms – none other than Darth Maladi who is now trying to take over the sith herself. Even more surprising is that she is trying to turn Cade back to the Dark Side – probably not a good thing for her in the end since he’s likely the most powerful Sith or Jedi in the Universe.
Will Cade save Delilah Blue? I sure hope so – i’d sure miss seeing that Zeltron hanging off Cade.
And what about the big Jedi/Roan Fel /Imperial Sith battle?
WOW – talk about action.
No surprise that the allies get together and we knew the Sith Imperials were coming but still fun to see. How Capt Yag will somehow not shoot down her own mother in the next issue – i don’t know…
Caprica – Is Tamra Adama going to take over Vworld? March 1, 2010

Caprica is a slow show – but the last two episodes (5&6) especially this week’s episode There Is Another Sky really are helping to pick the show up.
The Greystone’s are now finally starting to build out the Cylon race – hurrah! since we suspect that Daniel Greystone is one of the final 6 cylons.
The whole Adama plot line is a bit weak – except for the resurgence of Tamra. We did not see that coming.
She goes from being this meek teenager that can’t feel her heart – to now being an invincible weapon in the holobands. Wow. Yes Joseph Adama will find her and it will be…’interesting’
Eventually Daniel Greystone will have to figure out that the Cylon race is being driven by Zoe’s avatar too – or will he?
And of course — we still need to find out about the soldiers of the one.
Star Wars : Darth Bane Dynasty of Evil – Is Bane Dead? March 1, 2010

Darth Bane Dynasty of Evil is the third – and final book in the Darth Bane Trilogy. We’ve previously reviewed Darth Bane Path of Destruction (in 2006) and Darth Bane Rule of Two. The first two books were among the best Star Wars books ever written.
Dynasty of Evil is a good book – but it’s not as incredible as the first two. This book does tie in all the great elements of the first two books as we get a little flashback of Bane/Des as a gloomwalker and the big deep core battle with Jedi in the second book.
We already know about Bane and his apprentice – what we get in this book is the build up and the final confrontation between master and apprentice Darth Zannah. That’s what the rule of two is all about – one to have the power the other to crave it.
The plot follows a typical Star Wars mold with multiple subplots that all merge at the end for one big climax. The Bane going to get Darth Addendu holocron plotline was the weak link and was a plodding exercise to read.
In contrast the Zannah subplot was a lot more interesting as she finds a potential apprentice.
The final confrontation though is what this book is all about. Zannah vs Bane. Master vs. Apprentice.
Yes it’s an epic battle that every Star Wars fan should read.
But it leaves us with some questions doesn’t it?
Is Bane actually dead? Or did he somehow manage to transfer some part of himself to Zannah?
It’s clear that Zannah triumphed — but we think that Bane is still in there somewhere…
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic #50 The Series Finale February 25, 2010

After 50 issues it’s over.
None of us will be getting Dark Horse Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic new issues ever again.
It’s kind of sad – and it marks the end of an era.
KOTOR never did truly live up to the fantastic plot of the video games and nearly every issue had a letter in it when some reader or the other wondered when the plots would overlap. Sure we saw Malak and Revan, but never for much more than a few cells in an issue.
This final issue kinda/sorta ends off some loose ends.
At long last Zayne and Jarael get a little friendly which is sooo very long overdue.
Will we miss KOTOR – maybe – but reality is this series could have been better, though it did have its highlights. The arc when Zayne confronts the Adascas was awesome as was the final confrontation with Hazen in issue #33- that was the best wasn’t it?
Now the word is that series author John Jackson Miller will be back later this year with Star Wars Jedi another old republic title – and that’s a good thing. The era of the Old Republic is on that demands at least one ongoing Star Wars title at all times.
So long and fair well Zayne Carrick – it was a fun ride while it lasted.
Star Trek Mirror Universe : The Sorrows of Empire – This is the REAL sequel to Mirror Mirror and yes its Awesome! February 17, 2010

Our favorite Star Trek TOS episode has always been Mirror Mirror – where the Federation doesn’t exist and instead the Terran Empire reigns supreme and humans act more like the Klingons.
At the end of that greatest of all Star Trek episodes (Frak you Tribbles!!!) the Kirk from the ‘regular’ universe’ tell the Spock from the Mirror universe that he can make a difference.
Over the last 40 years we’ve seen small glimpses of that difference that Mirror Spock made — but we never got the full novel length story — until now.
The Sorrows of Empire is a the TRUE sequel to Mirror Mirror (Star Trek: The Original Series – Season Two [Blu-ray]) and it is the story that many of us have been waiting 40 years to read. Author David Mack is brilliant and continues on from that classic episode. Spock’s motivation and action are well scripted as is the dialogue and the drama.
The end – well we all knew how it would end – with the end of the Terran Empire – but how it got there and what Emperor Spock did – well that’s what this MOST AWESOME book is all about.
The end is a little shorter than i might have liked, but it works with the Klingon/Cardassian alliance smashing Terra and killing Spock and his poor wife — who get a lot of time in this book usually about her angst about not having a baby with Spock.
The weaving of Dr. Carol Marcus and David Marcus as well as Curzon Dax and Saavik is also brilliant. The Mirror Universe version of the Kobyashi Maru training simulation — another brilliant scene.
Did we like this book? HELL YES. And if you’re a fan classic Trek (and Mirror Mirror) so will you.

I don’t know what’s up with this trend for having women from SciFi shows posing in risque positions for men’s magazines.
The latest actress is Fringe’s Agent Olivia Dunham – played by actress Anna Torv.
In this month’s esquire she got a whole spread of topless pics – while wearing mens thermal underwear.
Why? is it really that cold on the set of Fringe?
We don’t know – but if you’re interested –
Here’s the link at Esquire to see the whole thing.

Chad Vader is Back for Season 3!!
The first episode is ok – funny but not ROFL funny. Chad needs to pick a day shift manager for the day and can’t decide.
So he installs a surveillance cam – that looks like a Death Star with a feed that goes directly to his helmet – good fun.

We really miss Star Trek The Next Generation – there really isn’t a SciFi show on TV now that even comes close.
Today one of the top stories on Digg was a mashup video of some TNG goodness.
Yes the ‘words’ are taken out of context – but not always.
And oh yeah there is a full 2 minutes of nothing but Star Trek TNG explosions, from Borg to Klingons to Federation and everything in between that got blown up in that show.
It’s a real ‘blast’ to say the least.

We’re still figuring out Caprica – and Zoe Greystone played by actress Alexxandra Torresani.
Torresani managed to find the time to pose for Maxim – in some of the most airbrushed pics we’ve ever seen. It’s not clear how much is actually the actress and how much is just photoshop.
Still – they’re great pics – though Zoe thinks she looks fine as a cylon – and if these pics are any clue she sure is one hot cylon.
Check out all the pics – NSFW – over at Maxim.com

We normally don’t watch Smallville
– actually we never do and this is the first time in five years of this site that we’ve ever written about the show.
But tonight’s episode was a little different.
Michael Shanks – best known as Dr. Daniel Jackson on Stargate – joined the Smallville cast as Hawkman!
To say he was an awesome would be an understatement.
Shanks played a dark troubled character with a degree of gravitas and intensity that was worthy of an Academy Award (if this were a movie). He was great as Dr. Jackson, but as Hawkman he is MAGNIFICENT.
The whole episode – titled Absolute Justice – was incredible and better than any other scifi show we’ve seen this year.

Last we saw Doctor Rush he was abandoned by the Destiny – left for dead.
Sure we know he’s coming back — there was that alien ship there after all – but how? (and yes we know that Eli knows the truth too or does he?)
Now the people at MGM have put together a FANTASTIC idea for a content – a Write your own comic contest – of what will happen to Dr. Rush.
So far there are a few interesting entries – and yeah we’re going to give it a shot too.
After all like the people at Dark Horse say – “We Love Comics!!”

New episode of Caprica is on Friday night and SyFy now has a sneak peak video up.
ummmmmmmmmmmm dumb question but aren’t trailers supposed to be exciting?
Caprica has potential, but unless this show kicks up the intensity a few notches it won’t live as long as its successor Battlestar Galactica

Fringe – Olivia Knows Peter is from the OTHER side February 4, 2010

So at long last Olivia know has the power to see things from the other side…
and months after the rest of us…
She finally knows that Peter doesn’t belong.
Big question of course now is what will she do about it?
I suspect that at some point SOON Peter will find out.
The thing that bothers me the most about Peter being from another universe is the fact that there is also another Walter Bishop – didn’t that Walter Bishop then loose his son too?
Star Trek Online Now Online – but it’ll cost you $150 a year to play! February 3, 2010

Star Trek Online is now out but it’s not all that cheap to play— though the gameplay is sweet.
Amazon has the game for just under $50 -which is not bad BUT be warned fellow MMORG newbies – you need to pay a monthly fee too.
In all that monthly fee – even at the best current rate will still cost you over $150 a year – which means if you want to play Star Trek Online for the next twelve months it will actually cost you at least $200 ($50 for the game and $150 for the online subscription).
We’re not fans of monthly subscriptions. We are fans of star trek. Atari must be run by the Ferengi or something.
Gameplay though looks awesome – and Zachary Quinto (aka New Spock) is in the game too – though watch the video below where he explains his role -and how he’s not really a gamer himself since he has a life.

Finally!! the first ‘real’ episode of Caprica – after the pilot movie. Rebirth was an interesting episode on many different levels — though it lacked the intensity of the pilot.
How could Daniel Greystone not put 1+1 together to see that the prototype cylon had the Zoey Avatar in it?
That aside it was cool to have the cylon/Zoe mix how she sees herself and how the world does.
The whole thing with Adama’s uncle – the Tauron crook was kinda neat too. The elder Adama had only a bit part in this episode though.
and of course the finale was solid – i wonder how Greystone’s stock will do now?
Final Episode of Dollhouse (Epitaph 2) SUCKED !! January 30, 2010

The last three or four final episode of Dollhouse have been awesome — the second last episode – (The Hollow Men) – the best of the series.
The FINAL episode – in very stark contrast – TOTALLY SUCKED.
This is one of the worst episodes, if no the worst episode in the whole two year history of Dollhouse. WTF was Joss thinking?
Yeeah cool to see the future world where everyone has been wiped –but there was little action and even less drama or plot in this episode. The only thing mildly interesting was the shockingly quick death of Agent Paul Ballard.
Beyond that this made no sense – Alpha as the keeper of the dollhouse? huh? the whole thing with Victor and Pria was overdone – Is it Caroline or Echo? and what was Neuropolis?
Some questions for sure — but the overall pacing was wrong and this was a major disappointment for us. After the fantastic second-last episode where Boyd is revealed (and blown up), this was a major let down.
Overall, Dollhouse was a brilliant concept show with some very intriguing episodes and some memorable characters. It did however have more holes in it than swiss cheese and this final episode has left us with a really foul taste in our mouth.
