Stargate Universe will begin filming in February – with a premiere set for the fall. SciFi has also announced who the cast will be for the show.

Justin Louis (Andromeda Strain, The Fighting Fitzgeralds) will portray Colonel Everett Young, an experienced Stargate team leader. Married, with years of tough decisions under his belt, life has taught him never to take anything for granted. He stays on top of his team so they stay alive.

David Blue (Ugly Betty) stars as Eli Wallace, a total slacker, who just happens to be an utter genius with anything he puts his mind to – mathematics, computers, video games. A lack of confidence has left him with an acerbic sense of humor.

Brian J. Smith (The War Boys, Hate Crime) is Lt. Matthew Scott, a junior member of the Stargate team. Green and rough around the edges, he is thrust into the role of leader well before he’s ready for the responsibility and must learn to command, earn respect through action, and manage the diverse personalities aboard the ship.

Jamil Walker Smith (Waynehead, Sister, Sister) will portray Sr. Sgt. Ronald Greer, a Marine with a temper you don’t want to mess with. His past is mysterious but it’s clear something dark formed the hard shell around him.

If you need any more proof that the current Sarah Connor Chronicles is Frakkin crap – here’s some.

Linda Hamilton – the one, the only – THE TRUE SARAH CONNOR – is likely to have a cameo in Terminator 4 – Terminator Salvation.

According to SciFi Wire:

McG (Salvation’s Director) intends to talk with original Sarah Connor Linda Hamilton soon about providing a voice-over narration—based on the tapes we see her recording for son John at the end of James Cameron’s 1984 original Terminator—to open and close the movie. “We’re in the business of doing that right now,” McG said. “So we’ll see what happens. She seems to be very supportive of the film. I look forward to showing it to her in about a week or so.” He added: “The tapes that she left for her son to be aware of what it was going to take to win the war, those are the tapes that are going to bring us in and out of the picture.”

New Krypton races to its conclusion in this second to last issue in the New Krypton series.

Finally – we get superman fighting his family!

Supergirl vs Superman!

We get the followers of Zod fighting other Earth heroes and we get a fantastic issue of entertainment.

It’s unfortunate there is only one issue left in this series – it’s been great fun.

Kyle Reese Returns to Terminator Sarah Connor Chronicles January 13, 2009

MADNESS. The first Terminator movie was sheer brilliance – and the key to it was Kyle Reese…the father of John Connor. He has to die in order for the future to happen and for John to be born.

Right?

Maybe not.

The blasphemous monstrosity that is Sarah Connor Chronicles is about to further ruin the Terminator mythos by bringing Kyle Reese back in the episode titled the Good Wound airing Feb 13th on Fox.

If you loved the original Terminator – this is probably now the right time to totally bail out on this show. If you like the show – this is probably the kind of twist that will keep you interested.

stargate.atlantisStargate Atlantis producer Joe Mallozzi has a lot of ideas for Stargate Atlantis season 6.

While Season five episode 20 – the 100th episode for the show overall marked the series finale – it wasn’t originally supposed to be that way. Season five was supposed to be the gateway to a new awesome story arc of Season 6.

“It was also intended to be the launching point for a very interesting early season 6 scenario,” Mallozzi blogged. ” With Atlantis back on Earth, why the hell would the I.O.A. ever let it go? And if it remained, which, by all indications seemed likely, what would become of its occupants, especially Ronon and Teyla? Also, with a permanent station in the Milky Way, wouldn‘t Atlantis, logically, cease to be a launch point for gate travel and, instead, become a research center for Ancient technology? Well, I guess you’ll never know the answer to these questions…”

Actually we’ll find out some of them in the Stargate Atlantis movies – but still…Atlantis as a regular weekly series still apparently had a lot of gas left it in when Sci Fi Channel pulled the plug. What a shame.

Jar Jar continues to amaze and save his friends even though he’s a buffoon….astounding.

We’ve never like JarJar but Clone Wars does its best to try and make him more likable. Another neat episode that nicely wraps up from the last episode.

Not quite sure where that ship in the end came from – since the Republic ship that JarJar and the clones came down in was shot down..guess that was Anakin’s ship they took off in.

This series overall has  become a must watch part of the Star Wars canon with consistenly good shows week in and week out.

Goodbye Stargate Atlantis – we’re sad to see you go.

The final episode of Stargate Atlantis was one of the best ever for the series – with the Wraith finally reaching Earth – and with Atlantis finally reaching Earth.

But the big battle – wasn’t nearly as great as when the G’ould in Stargate SG-1 attacked Earth was it? This sure was a whole lot more low key.

And what’s the deal with having no one in the Weapons chair empty? Sure Sheppard could fly the 302s but isn’t there anyone else on Earth (like O’Neil??) who could have sat in the chair too? Seemed kind of dumb.

But great to see Ronon die and come back and then get a girlfriend. Always good to see the Golden Gate Bridge though – would have more fun if they landed in New York City.

Unlike the final episode of Stargate SG-1 this was better series finale – sure there are loose ends but nothing like the crap SG-1 left us with.

The Wraith are still out there, Todd is on Earth and Pegasus Galaxy needs defending…but I suppose we’ll get that in upcoming Stargate Atlantis movies – no word yet on when those movie might show up – but hopefully they’ll be sooner rather than later.

Stargate Atlantis ends at a better time than SG-1 , since the primary enemy is still out there and there is lots more room to explore. Still it’s sad to see the show gone and Friday nights won’t be the same..

BUT HEY! Battlestar Galactica is back next week!

I could never figure out how Star Wars characters could understand what R2D2 WAS actually saying – but apparently there is some reasoning behind the beeping..

and..there is also a wicked cool site out there that will do the translation – one way – for you. Not sure how accurate it is but it sure is fun.

The Ontario Science Centre hosted the Toronto Astronomy Festival today – a kickoff to the year long festivities for the International Year of Astronomy.

A key theme of the event – and the year – is to get more people interested in Astronomy – especially children. If the event at the Science Centre is an indication – there is still a lot of work that needs to be done.

Here’s a quick review of what we saw/did today at the event.

Star Trek Enterprise Kobayashi Maru January 9, 2009

startrekkm The name Kobayashi Maru has been known to Star Trek fans for the past 25 years when it first appeared in Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan…But now there is new piece of the Kobashi Maru legend.

Enterprise (yes that suckky show that got cancelled a 4 seasons too late) is now adding a few chapters to the Maru saga…and they’re GOOOOOOD.

The basics are still kinda/sorta the same the freighter send a distress signal, once the ship get there they get jumped by three Klingon Birds of Prey. The similarities end there though.

This novel adds a new layer of Romulan complexity and duplicity while adding new plot to the Enterprise story. And Archer’s version of the no-win ? Not quite what I expected.

For starters – Commander Trip is ALIVE!

The characters in this novel are brilliantly written as is the plot. We weren’t fans of the Enterprise TV show but this book has made us a believer in the power of AWESOME story telling. Pacing is excellent as our the twists and turns that make this a real page t

We’re now fully on board for Enterprise as a book series and we’re looking forward to the next novel in the series.

Oh and just in case you don’t remember, here’s the legendary Kobayashi Maru scene from Star Trek II

House actress Olivia Wilde is playing an as yet undisclosed character in the new TR2N (Tron 2) movie. In a interview over on SciFi Wire she doesn’t tell much other than that she’s excited about the role.

Garrett Hedlund has been cast as the male lead (he was in Troy) but don’t forget Bruce Boxleitner and Jeff Bridges will be back too.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars #3 – Anakin the Charmer January 8, 2009

This comic is getting a bit lame fast isn’t it? So now Anakin is a slaver with Ashoka the slave…all the while Anakin is charming the Queen of the Slavers…

I dunno it’s a little bit of a stretch that no one would recognize a hero of the Republic just because he’s wearing an eye patch…

To add further insult to injury – it looks like the next issue of this series will not be out until February..not sure why Dark Horse is jerking around with this series…maybe they’re just not serious enough about it.

The animated show on Cartoon Network is MUCH better.

To be honest – we’re not usually big fans of IDW’s Star Trek comics – that changes with Star Trek : The Last Generation.

We’ve now read the first two issues and the one word review is :

AWESOME.

It’s a Myriad Universe tale – a What If Kirk had been unsuccessful in Star Trek IV from preventing the assassination of the Federation president – basically it means the Klingons take over Earth.

The Next Gen crew are the rebellion – Worf is the gov of Earth and Sulu and the starship Excelsior is the last Federation ship left.

It’s sort of like the ‘Yesterday’s Enterprise’ episode of Next Generation – only better in some ways. Guinan again knows that something is wrong with the timeline but this time around she’s romantically involved with Picard!

The art is solid – the characters are true and the plot is fantastic overall.

So that’s it for the Galaxy Quest comic book – after 5 issues.

The first issue of this series was great after that it’s been all downhill with each issue stupider than the next.

Issue #5 is so pathetic i wish i could get a refund for it.

How do our heroes save Earth? Beats me. I think it’s cause they use the word ‘maybe’  on the Judgement ship.

It just doesn’t make any sense at all.

It’s too bad too, this series started out so well, but IDW just sort left it out in the cold to twist in the wind without proper plot oversight.

Finally!!

Roland gives up the grapefruit and gives it to his father. It is totally ridiculous how long Peter David has strung this story line out…and it’s a damn shame too.

This serious is a good one but stretching out plot elements needlessly is just shameful.

That said – now we’ve got some forward motion here again and Treachery is all around.

Roland’s mom and Farson are all converging toward the climax of this series which should be a real winner.

Krifing AMAAAZING!

No – not Vector in general – but this issue in particular was hands down – INCREDIBLE. It really finished off the plot elements first laid out in part 11 last month.

After 12 issues spanning the entire Dark Horse Star Wars canon Vector comes to an end – but the Vector angle and the Muir Talisman is almost a side-show in this final issue of Vector isn’t it?

Cade is so powerful in the force that Muir lasts what? One frame? Then he’s toast. Does that make Cade the most powerful Jedi in 40,000 years??

Too bad for Celeste Morne though – I was kind of hoping that she would somehow survive – but what was that about her thinking that Zayne Carrick sent Cade for her? Nonsense!

And poor Azlyn Rae – will she be healed?

But the biggest plot dev by far – and the only one that makes Vector as a series worthwhile is the defeat of Darth Krayt.

I did not see that one coming – nor did I see Darth Wrylock’s deception either – then again that’s the Sith way isn’t it?

Will Krayt return – i’d say it’s 50/50 at this point..but at least Vector is now done so we can finally get on with the rest of the Star Wars universe!

Was Vector a success?

As a loyal Dark Horse reader – i would have read all the titles anyways. I’m not sure that it pulled in new readers – but it was neat to have some small link spanning all the Star Wars titles. In the end though, Vector fell apart and the AWESOMENESS of Legacy just blew it out of the water.

Stargate Atlantis Series Finale – Enemy at the Gates – trailer clips January 5, 2009

A few clips from the final episode of Stargate Atlantis have now …surfaced on YouTube.

The basic story is simple –the Wraith,  have at last uncovered the road to Earth. As they sweep aside any & all resistance in their new, colossal, mega-hiveship, the Atlantis expedition & Stargate Command coordinate a desperate defense against the oncoming Wraith onslaught. Defeat by the Wraith condemns humanity to a fate much worse than death.

In a touching scene – Stargate producers have also named a new ship the General Hammond (he died in real life).

It looks like there are a lot of cameo appearances in this episode – with Stargate Command personnel including Samantha Carter taking a staring role.

We can hardly wait until Friday when this airs!!

After three years, we finally have our first genuinely new plot story arc for Knights of the Old Republic – after the grand finale that was issue #35.

So, where do we begin?

It looks like Zayne is now just the ‘henchman’ in a criminal organization…no he’s not quite the bounty hunter type that Cade Skywalker is..but the basic character type isn’t all that different is it?

I hope that in this arc – we’ll start to see some Sith influences…and it will be great to see how Zayne eventually comes back into the Jedi Order – or not.

Those Weequay pirates….gotta hand it to them they ain’t dumb…though they do sound a whole lot like the Trade Federation Neimodians ..

A fun little episode – why Douku didn’t use some Sith fire to fight a little more – i don’t know..and i guess his Solar Sail doesn’t have hyperdrive? Why wouldn’t he have just jumped ?
