I could never figure out how Star Wars characters could understand what R2D2 WAS actually saying – but apparently there is some reasoning behind the beeping..

and..there is also a wicked cool site out there that will do the translation – one way – for you. Not sure how accurate it is but it sure is fun.

House actress Olivia Wilde is playing an as yet undisclosed character in the new TR2N (Tron 2) movie. In a interview over on SciFi Wire she doesn’t tell much other than that she’s excited about the role.

Garrett Hedlund has been cast as the male lead (he was in Troy) but don’t forget Bruce Boxleitner and Jeff Bridges will be back too.

To be honest – we’re not usually big fans of IDW’s Star Trek comics – that changes with Star Trek : The Last Generation.

We’ve now read the first two issues and the one word review is :

AWESOME.

It’s a Myriad Universe tale – a What If Kirk had been unsuccessful in Star Trek IV from preventing the assassination of the Federation president – basically it means the Klingons take over Earth.

The Next Gen crew are the rebellion – Worf is the gov of Earth and Sulu and the starship Excelsior is the last Federation ship left.

It’s sort of like the ‘Yesterday’s Enterprise’ episode of Next Generation – only better in some ways. Guinan again knows that something is wrong with the timeline but this time around she’s romantically involved with Picard!

The art is solid – the characters are true and the plot is fantastic overall.

So that’s it for the Galaxy Quest comic book – after 5 issues.

The first issue of this series was great after that it’s been all downhill with each issue stupider than the next.

Issue #5 is so pathetic i wish i could get a refund for it.

How do our heroes save Earth? Beats me. I think it’s cause they use the word ‘maybe’  on the Judgement ship.

It just doesn’t make any sense at all.

It’s too bad too, this series started out so well, but IDW just sort left it out in the cold to twist in the wind without proper plot oversight.

Krifing AMAAAZING!

No – not Vector in general – but this issue in particular was hands down – INCREDIBLE. It really finished off the plot elements first laid out in part 11 last month.

After 12 issues spanning the entire Dark Horse Star Wars canon Vector comes to an end – but the Vector angle and the Muir Talisman is almost a side-show in this final issue of Vector isn’t it?

Cade is so powerful in the force that Muir lasts what? One frame? Then he’s toast. Does that make Cade the most powerful Jedi in 40,000 years??

Too bad for Celeste Morne though – I was kind of hoping that she would somehow survive – but what was that about her thinking that Zayne Carrick sent Cade for her? Nonsense!

And poor Azlyn Rae – will she be healed?

But the biggest plot dev by far – and the only one that makes Vector as a series worthwhile is the defeat of Darth Krayt.

I did not see that one coming – nor did I see Darth Wrylock’s deception either – then again that’s the Sith way isn’t it?

Will Krayt return – i’d say it’s 50/50 at this point..but at least Vector is now done so we can finally get on with the rest of the Star Wars universe!

Was Vector a success?

As a loyal Dark Horse reader – i would have read all the titles anyways. I’m not sure that it pulled in new readers – but it was neat to have some small link spanning all the Star Wars titles. In the end though, Vector fell apart and the AWESOMENESS of Legacy just blew it out of the water.

Stargate Atlantis Series Finale – Enemy at the Gates – trailer clips January 5, 2009

A few clips from the final episode of Stargate Atlantis have now …surfaced on YouTube.

The basic story is simple –the Wraith,  have at last uncovered the road to Earth. As they sweep aside any & all resistance in their new, colossal, mega-hiveship, the Atlantis expedition & Stargate Command coordinate a desperate defense against the oncoming Wraith onslaught. Defeat by the Wraith condemns humanity to a fate much worse than death.

In a touching scene – Stargate producers have also named a new ship the General Hammond (he died in real life).

It looks like there are a lot of cameo appearances in this episode – with Stargate Command personnel including Samantha Carter taking a staring role.

We can hardly wait until Friday when this airs!!

After three years, we finally have our first genuinely new plot story arc for Knights of the Old Republic – after the grand finale that was issue #35.

So, where do we begin?

It looks like Zayne is now just the ‘henchman’ in a criminal organization…no he’s not quite the bounty hunter type that Cade Skywalker is..but the basic character type isn’t all that different is it?

I hope that in this arc – we’ll start to see some Sith influences…and it will be great to see how Zayne eventually comes back into the Jedi Order – or not.

Wow what a great episode – and sadly the second last ever for Stargate Atlantis.

From beginning to end this episode had a real CSI feel – and that duelling metal and Johhny Cash Solitary Man soundtracks were just magnificient.

What if John Sheppard’s life had gone just a little different? This episode with him as a down on his luck Vegas cop tracking a killer (aka Wraith) fit perfectly. It’s still Sheppard – just a down on his luck version.

The Wraith with the makeup making his way in Vegas was also awesome – i’ll be doing a double take next time i’m in Vegas to make sure i’m not playing poker against a Wraith.

The funniest line? From McKay when he says well he’s not a Klingon at the Star Trek Experience – cause that closed down a few months ago!!

Sure there are those that will argue that for the second last episode of Stargate Atlantis we should’ve seen a more plot focussed story – I disagree.

This tangent to a parallel universe proves once again that Stargate Atlantis was not a copy of SG-1. Atlantis stands on its own merits. The brilliant story telling of this episode may not necessarily advance the mainline Atlantis story but it is a story that was incredibly entertaining and one of the best episodes in the entire five year run of Stargate Atlantis.

Talk about saving the best for last.

Now all we’ve got left is the final episode –

Star Trek Phase II : EPISODE 4 :BLOOD AND FIRE – PART 1 December 27, 2008

We’ve been excited about the Blood and Fire episode of the fan produced Star Trek Phase II series for months. It’s now available – though only if you download it (as of Dec 27, 2008 at least) without an option for a streaming web version – yet *UPDATE** It’s on YouTube we’ve linked the episodes below!!.

Yet though this episode has some of the best special effects EVER for a fan made Star Trek flick – some of the early chatter has been about the 3.5 minute homo-erotic scene. While it’s not my own particular preference – it’s fair to have this considering that the original Trek was full of its own gratuitous scenes and no one can argue that Jeri Ryan’s super-tight outfit on Voyager served any practicial purpose other than to stimulate males of all ages. (That said I wonder if the Star Trek New Voyages ppl could line up someone that would agree to a skin tight Jeri Ryan outfit...)

That small scene aside – this is an AWESOME first part of an episode that is superior to anything i’ve seen yet from Star Trek XI. Too bad this is set for the big screen. Best line – Kirk’s nephew is a ‘red’ shirt – so Scotty say – ‘Relax Jim we don’t put bullseyes on the red shirts anymore!”

OHH and it looks like it’s now on YouTube – so here ya go – enjoy

Buck Rogers Movie Coming Thanks to Frank Miller December 19, 2008

It’s not Sin to love Buck Rogers – is it?

Sin City director Frank Miller (he also did 300) is apparently set to write and direct a new movie version of Buck Rogers. I remember the 80’s TV show with Gil Gerrard fondly (remember Hawk?)

How could you not love Erin Gray’s spandex-clad Wilma Deering?

According to the Hollywood Reporter:

Miller will write and direct his own big-screen take on the comic serial; while the creator has only begun to sketch ideas, it’s expected to be a darker take, with many of Miller’s signature visual elements and themes, such as corruption and redemption.

It’s likely to be a priority project for Miller, though he has been mulling a “Sin City” sequel.

Majel Barrett Roddenberry – wife of the Star Trek Creator, voice of Star Trek ships old and new, mother of Deanna Troy – has passed away at the age of 76.

According to reports Majel Barrett Roddenberry died Thursday of leukemia at her home in Bel-Air, Calif.

No other person has been involved with Star Trek from its inception in the 60’s all the way to 2009 and the Star Trek XI movie where Majel’s voice will be the voice of the Enterprise yet again.

While nurse chappel was cute it was as Lwaxana Troi that we think she showed her true comedic genious. Everyone that has ever seen Star Trek the Next Generation has a favorite Lwaxana Troi moment. I still crack a grin everytime i think of her calling Worf – Mr Woof.

Legendary SF author Philip K. Dick would have been 80 today (were he alive). Philip Kindred Dick born December 16, 1928 died on March 2, 1982.
Our fav Philip K. Dick novel remains the Man in the High Castle, but there really are so many others that are worthy aren’t there?

Dick was different than what we were used to – and took a dark twisted look at reality that in our view has yet to be replicated in SciFi by any other author.

Considering that there are only TWO EPISODES LEFT of Stargate Atlantis – this was a really lame episode.

We’ve seen the body transfer thing a dozen or more times already – this one was not nearly as good as the SG-1 episode when Daniel Jackson and Vala got transfered – remember they almost got burned at the stake!

Still basicly good fun – it’s just we really wish that we’d get something MORE seeing as this series is capable of MORE and we’re almost done.

If I had written the final three or four episodes of Atlantis you can bet your Wraith hating soul that it would be a massively engaging four part cycle that engaged everything we all know and love about Atlantis. If the last two episodes are anything like this one – the show will go out with a whimper instead of a bang.

What a joke. The CBC in Canada aired the final episode of Doctor Who season 4 (4×13) in Canada on Friday night – in a bastardized edited form that made the show impossible to watch.

The CBC editted nearly 20 minutes out of the episode which was the season finale!

There are a lot of people that are complaining about this (check out the CBC forums) .

Was the show too long? Something politically incorrect in it? Too much nudity?? What?!! Why would the CBC do such a thing? It’s just madness.

CBC is funded by the Canadian taxpayers. I suggest that all Canadian’s demand a refund.

Ron Moore’s Battlestar Galactica days may be numbered but it doesn’t look like he’s a golden boy for everything.

FOX apparently is pushing back on Moore’s Virtuality show that we first wrote about back in April. Basically its a ship in long duration flight – with a crew have virtual reality experiences throughout the journey.

According to the Hollywood Reporter:
The two-hour backdoor sci-fi pilot “Virtuality,” might stay in consideration for May and be reworked as a more mainstream drama.

Remember friends – this is FOX. The same network that killed Firefly and is now butchering Sarah Connor Chronicles…so i suppose we didn’t have much cause to be hopeful in the first place.

Starbuck (aka not a cylon) is our fav character on Battlestar Galactica.

Apparently Sci Fi Channel wants viewers to look at her chest –

that is if this new teaser add for the new season is any indication.

New season starts in two week – and the webisodes start tomorrow (Dec 12th) at Noon ET on SciFi.com!!

Doctor Who Series 4 is easily one of the best seasons of Doctor Who in a long long long time.

The return of the Daleks in this episode is fantastic  – and it sure is great to see Davros once again (btw where is the MASTER?).

Having all of the Doctor’s friends and companions aligned in this episode is also great – with the funniest easily being the ex prime minister – with the Daleks noting that they know who she is.

For year Doctor Who fans have called the Daleks the most fearsome of all the Doctor’s enemies – I still have a problem with them though…they are basically rolling trash cans with limited mobility. Yes i know they can hover now but come one i would expect that the human commandoes would be quicker than the Dalek army and able to take them out.

stargateatlantisThe ship got sick! Great stuff…and great to see Wraith drone warriors without their masks on too.

Darn shame the treatment doesn’t work to help the Wraith…but

Ultimately this episode was about Sheppard and Todd and the bond between the two.

It’s a bond that we’ll see again – hopefully before the series ends in three more episodes…it totally sucks that SciFi Channel has cancelled the show.

Battlestar Galactica Caprica gets Ordered by Sci Fi Channel December 3, 2008

Ok so maybe we were a little hasty in calling Caprica dead the other week.

Sci Fi channel has now ordered 20 hours of the Battlestar Galactica prequel. Originally it was supposed to have a pilot this month but now it looks like that pilot will show up sometime in 2009 with the full series likely to debut in 2010.

The pilot trailer looks like frakking crap to me – but hey with 20 hours now booked – maybe they can build this up and actually make this as cool as BSG itself.

Set 50 years before “Battlestar Galactica,” “Caprica” follows two rival families — the Graystones and the Adamas — as they grow, compete, and thrive in the vibrant world of the 12 Colonies, a society recognizably close to our own.  Enmeshed in the burgeoning technology of artificial intelligence and robotics that will eventually lead to the creation of the Cylons, the two houses go toe-to-toe blending action with corporate conspiracy and sexual politics. “Caprica” will deliver all of the passion, intrigue, political backbiting and family conflict in television’s first science fiction family saga. As the series begins, a startling development is about to occur — the creation of the first cybernetic life-form node or “Cylon” — the ability to marry artificial intelligence with mechanical bodies. Joseph Adama (Morales)  — father of future “Battlestar” commander William Adama (Najafi) — a renowned civil liberties lawyer, becomes an opponent of the experiments undertaken by the Graystones (Stoltz), owners of a large computer corporation that is spearheading the development of these living robots: the Cylons.
