Though i didn’t think the last episode was a ‘cliffhanger’, there were a few unknowns left..like what happened to the Wraith hive ships?
Well now we know. We also now know how the Wraith defeated the ancients ultimately which was shear force of numbers.
An entertaining and plot advancing story that was enjoyable end to end. And finally I think that Tayla will take a break too! And no doubt the Wraith ‘friend’ Ty will be back..though personally i’m curious whatever happened to Michael the Wraith? Maybe we’ll see a showdown between the two which really would be neat.

Usually at the end of the year you throw out an old calendar.
BUT..if you were the owner of a 2007 Star Trek Ships of the Line Calendar you probably shouldn’t. You see on both eBay and on Amazon a 2007 calendar (yes it is 2008 now) is going for…$$ .
On Amazon the calendars are going for…get this a minimum of $123.86.
Check it out here:
Star Trek Ships of the Line 2007
Over an eBay there is a similar thing though a little bit cheaper. One seller has an auction for the same calendar starting at $50 with a Buy it NOw of $100.

This is definitely a first.
Star Wars characters are only in Star Wars games – that’s just the way it is….NOT SO anymore.
Darth Vader and Yoda will be in SoulCalibur IV – yup that one..the really slick first person fighter. Apparently Vader will only be in the PS3 version while Yoda for Xbox 360 – somehow i suspect they’ll be a fancy cheat code that will bring both for both platforms though.
The only first person fighter that we’re ever of ever existing with Star Wars characters was the PS1’s Star Wars Masters of the Teras Kasi…this should be a whole lot better
Check out the trailer below…vader appears at the 1:00 min mark and he looks awesome.

Lots of activity lately in Battlestar Galactica promo land…one of the most interesting by far is one we just came across on Canada’s Space Network (sort of like SciFi only lamer usually).
They’ve got a SciFi media show call Hypaspace and they did a really great insider look at the upcoming Season 4 with some really solid cast interviews.
Katee Sackhoff declares that she’s not a cylon (though we all know she is) and apparently a whole lot of ppl die this season…

Wow what a great episode. The Wraith, the Atlanteans and Laren’s people all join up to destroy the Replicator homeworld.
Awesome action and really solid episode end to end.
It was a bit strange however for Earth to commit both of its starships – though i guess it makes sense given the stakes involved.
Laren is awesome and obviously we’ll see more of here. I’d suspect the good Col. Sheppard would like to see ALOT more of her…(was it just me or was he staring at her breasts most of the time?).
Great to see that Dr. Weir will return with her replicator fleet though..as it really would be a ‘shame’ to have the replicators totally gone…i mean who else can keep the Wraith as busy.

Star Wars Legacy #18 – Cade Skywalker Kills the Sith Hottie January 7, 2008

The last 17 issues of Legacy have been awesome and issue number 18 continues that tradition.
We finally learn of the link between Darth Krayt and Darth Caedus – the critical link that connects Star Wars Legacy with the New Jedi Order and Legacy of the Force books.
It’s a fine link – essentially Vergere – the same Jedi creation that changed Jacen Solo did the same kind of thing to Hett/Darth Krayt while onboard a Vong Cruiser.
The Sith that are hiding out on Korriban in the time of Legacy of the Force (that Lumiya and Alema Rar knew) are the same as Krayt’s Sith…hurray! Anything else likely would not have made sense and would have messed up continuity and canon.
Beyond the end of Darth Krayt explaining how he came into being..we see the Vong’s Embrace of Pain (yup that sucker) but as opposed to Jacen Solo (and maybe Ben
Skywalker too?) it doesn’t mess up Cade…too much (yet).
Perhaps most importantly though…Cade sees a vision of his Dad – Kol Skywalker – and rejects the Sith – fighting his way out and killing (or so we think) the Sith hottie herself..Darth Talon (yeah her…the awesome Twi’lek that Cade hooks up with and the same that is on the cover of issue zero of Legacy.
Again the artwork is sheer brilliance and is the best of any current ongoing Star Wars series.
It will be VERY interesting to see what happens next as Cade’s MAMA and Cade’s ole bounty hunting pals help him out to escape the clutches of Krayt…
Oh and what about Roan Fel and his daughter?
Lots of stuff for us to get caught up on…and then of course there is Vector….man oh man…if Legacy was a weekly series i don’t think it would be enough!!
Is Darth Talon really dead? We’ll see…one thing is for sure, i don’t think she’ll easily be forgotten.

Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade.
When it actually first happened I remember my shock..now years later when this special edition hardcover including that most memorable storyline of the marriage of Luke and Mara..my feelings are somewhat mixed.
Mara in the ‘regular’ timeline of the Expanded Universe is now dead (and don’t forget to sign the ShowMeSciFi.com petition to bring Mara back!). But to revisit this happiest of times in this incredible hardcover edition is a wonderful thing.
The story isn’t terribly innovative — it’s a wedding story after all — but it’s solid. The art is great and it holds your attention from cover to cover.
The format – the hardcover with the extra special paper stock is incredible and makes everything look/feel (and almost read) better than any other comic format ever produced by Dark Horse. Bottom line is it’s a great read and a must have addition to every Star Wars Expanded Universe fans collection — even more so now that Mara has left us.

There are aliens in Cardiff?!
Apparently so. Though it took a few episodes till we got into Torchwood it has turned out to be a really neat little show. At first I thought it would be a lame Dr Who spinoff, but Torchwood is anything but. Episode after episode show well plotted and thought out shows that are matched with a fine cast.
Thankfully BBC realizes they’ve got a winner and are set to do the Second season premiere exclusively on BBC Two on 16 January 2008.On BBC America, Series 2 will premiere on January 26, 2008.
I suspect that really keen fans in the US won’t wait the extra two weeks and will find other means to get at the shows. The BBC has gone to extraodinary measures to try and withold information from Americans about Torchwood – in fact the main BBC Torchwood site restricts access and does not show any content if it detects you have an American IP address.
Thankfully YouTube knows no such boundaries..check out the trailer for yourself
**UPDATE**! Thanks to John Campbell Rees for noticing that our original YouTube link had been pulled (guess the BBC is serious about not letting stuff out)..but thanks to John here’s an even better promo from BBC America.
This is the original BBC UK one..

Who says that good things come to those who wait? Terminator spinoff TV series Sarah Connor Chronicles isn’t on broadcast TV until Jan 13th but you – YES YOU can watch it tomorrow Friday Jan 4th online – for free.
Fox will post the pilot episode of Terminator: The Sarah Connor ChroniclesYahoo! for 24 hours beginning Jan. 4 at 9 p.m. PT/12 a.m. ET. The commercial-free premiere will also feature an exclusive introduction by star Lena Headey (Sarah Connor).
Is this an indication that Yahoo! actually is Skynet? HA! I sure hope that Yahoo! has provisioned enough bandwidth for this event…i’d also suspect that bootleggers and pirates will find their way to swipe it off Yahoo! once available and you’ll see Sarah Conner Chronicles all over BitTorrent too. Hopefully it doesn’t detract from the official broadcast launch on Fox. WE NEED THIS SHOW. The SciFi genre Needs This to be successful…too many SciFi TV shows have died…let’s hope this one has a longer life span.
A White Dwarf Pulsar? NASA has found one. January 3, 2008

Apparently there is alot more to White Dwarf stars then previously thought. Until now a White Dwarf star was thought to be a cooling star that was on its way to fading away..apparently that’s not necessarily the case.
White Dwarf star AE Aquarii according to new NASA research emits pulses of
high-energy (hard) X-rays as it whirls around on its axis.
“We’re seeing behavior like the pulsar in the Crab Nebula, but we’re seeing it in a white dwarf,” says Koji Mukai of NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. The Crab Nebula is the shattered remnant of a massive star that ended its life in a supernova explosion. “This is the first time such pulsar-like behavior has ever been observed in a white dwarf.”

French mathematician Urbain Jean Joseph Le Verrier claimed on this date in 1860 the discovery of the planet Vulcan. Vulcan was supposed to inhabit the orbit between Mercury and the Sun and was not the home of Logic.
As it turns out Logic which is what let Le Verrier to deduce the existence of Vulcan was flawed as no such planet exists in the orbit he surmised.
To his credit though Le Verrier did ‘discover’ another planet…Neptune.

Don’t be too quick to swing this lightsaber too close to your screen…
It’s a neat idea though it’s basic in construction. What you get is On/off and basic channel flipping capabilities. Then again this is a novelty item so do you really care that it can’t control your entire home entertainment system??

We’ve had a bit of a love/hate relationship with Knights of the Old Republic. It started off well then got pretty aweful about a year ago but the last 5 issues have been really solid.
Issue #24 is another great issue and marks the solid return of this title to its initial glory. Finally Zayne comes back to the Jedi Tower on Taris..yet another Jedi admits that Zayne didn’t kill the padawans and we hear more about the prophesy that set this whole series in motion.
The art which had been lopsided for a while is and has been solid for the last 5 issues as well and this issue overall was great and enjoyable read.
This series now is set to move to its next phase…as the birthplace of the first Star Wars comics crossover event ever with Vector.
My guess is that Vector will somehow relate to that initial prophesy that set KOTOR in motion in the first place. The great Jedi seer somehow saw deep into the future with both the events of her time, that of the End of the Republic and further out into the Legacy era itself. It’s a massive vision that Dark Horse will try and weave with Vector. I’m glad that it’s beginning in KOTOR.

This is one depressing series.
Issue #5 of course was one for the ages…this issue just add a bit more misery to mix. This series has real interesting guiding plot line…make the characters miserable…give them a little hope..take it a way and then do a double cross of some sort.
Bomo is getting more integrated in with the crew here and in the parallel story line the Jedi outcasts are making a home for themselves such that it is.
The only weak point is that this is the first issue in awhile not drawn by Doug Wheatley whose artistic style is without peer.
That’s not to say the art is bad (cause it’s not)..it’s just not the same.

If you think it’s been awhile since you’ve since a Star Trek Titan book review on ShowMeSciFi.com you’d be right. The last time a new Star Trek Titan book came out was late 2005. We reviewed the three previous Star Trek Titan books (Taking Wing, The Red King and Orion’s Hounds ) in 2006.
This latest book, the fourth in the series was one we had been waiting for, for some time…Titan is the series that chronicles the continuing adventures of Captain Wil Riker and his Luna class star ship Titan on deep space exploration missions. The crew is mostly non-human which makes for a real interesting mix.
Unfortunately The Sword of Damocles isn’t a good book at all as it doesn’t take advantage of the Titan or her diverse crew (including Riker) well at all. Much of the book is focussed on one character a Bajoran and an poorly constructed time paradox plot.
While time related stories are often difficult to navigate, the publisher has made this one infinately more difficult to navigate by not properly indicating scene changes/time changes as chapter or section headings. It’s a publishing 101 issue and it significantly detracts from this work.
The author – Geoffrey Thorne is likely the worst Star Trek author we have ever read as he makes little sense and does little to connect with the Titan canon that has been developing over the course of the previous four books.
Of the four books thus far, this one was by far and away the worst of the bunch and one of the least readable Star Trek books we’ve seen in years.
Titan is a valuable and excellent concept. We can only hope that the power that be get their act together and publish this title more often and with better authors.
