Star Wars Agent of the Empire: Dark Horse? Srsly? You’re doing this instead of Legacy?? December 18, 2011

Ever since John Ostrander revealed he would be working on a new series – after the greatest Dark Horse Star Wars comic of all time — Legacy — we’ve been excited about his new project.

After reading it – we’re interested, but a bit underwhelmed.

Agent of the Empire is essentially a James Bond kind of character working for the Empire.

Ok that’s alright, but he’s a stick figure of a character (so far) without much personality.

That artwork is passable and not up to Legacy standards yet either.

And from a canon perspective – when did we find out that Han Solo went to the Imperial Academy? somehow i missed that before…a neat twist though and seeing a younger Han Solo makes this book almost worthwhile.

So long story short, empire’s agent is hunting down bad apples in the Empire…..

Sure we’ll keep reading this – it’s only a five issue series after all – but the premise isn’t nearly as strong as the previous generation of Star Wars titles and so far, neither is the plot, artwork or characters.

Star Trek Enterprise: The Romulan War: To Brave the Storm December 18, 2011

We weren’t particularly big fans of Enterprise when it was on TV…but we have been big fans of the Romulan War series, beginning with Kobyashi Maru which is a FANTASTIC book.

That story continued in The Romulan War – which similarly was a great read..so yeah we had high expectation for To Brave The Storm and Michael Martin delivers.

This is a real conclusion to the Romulan War saga…and a more fitting end to Star Trek Enterprise than the crap that showed up on TV.

We get some real insight into the Romulan Star Empire of the day and Vulcans too…

But perhaps most importantly, we get the final resolution of the whole Trip / T’Pol situation. That resolution doesn’t come until the last page of this book, in a brilliantly crafted literary maneuver of looking back 25 years after the founding of the Federation (and the Romulan War itself).

No, I don’t know how or if any other writer could possibly now extend Enterprise – this is likely it and it’s a fitting end.

Stargate Universe SGU Gin RETURNS!! March 30, 2011

Hope – we sure had it when Gin died – or at least when her body died.

We didn’t believe she was actually dead. Eli is the best character on the show and he wasn’t going to cheated that way.

So now his girlfriend -and Dr. Rush’s Amanda Perry are both back as sentients inside of Destiny – neat.

But how is it that only specific people see them? Is it some kind of brain wavelength thing?

How will they get them into new bodies? Maybe into robot bodies?

Once again – another awesome episode and once again we’re DISGUSTED that the frakking idiots at Syfy have cancelled this brilliant show.

Alliances was yet another awesome episode of SGU.

HOw the FRAK could SyFy cancel this show?

IDIOTS.

A really great story and we weren’t sure how it would end, until the end and even then..

the Leutian alliance attacking Earth directly was kinda neat, but the whole stones angle – made this rly interesting.

We know that if someone dies on one end of a stones connection, both hosts die, so this was a good twist. Also interesting to see the relationship expand btween Destiny’s Leutian ‘guest’ and Lt. Johansen.

Smallville is coming to an end on May 13, 2011 at 8 pm.

That’ll be it, no more and finally…finally…

THE BLUR WILL BECOME SUPERMAN.

We’ve waited 10 yrs for this and I think we’ve waited long enough.

“Paying homage to 10 seasons is no small task, and wrapping up each character and story arc has been extremely important to everyone involved in the show,” said executive producers Brian Peterson and Kelly Souders in a statement. “We’re excited to be able to make the final moments of SMALLVILLE a television event, as the character we’ve grown up with makes his legendary transformation.”

Star Wars Fate of the Jedi – Vortex – review: Awesome. This book is the best in the series yet. January 23, 2011

Vortex (Star Wars: Fate of the Jedi, Book 6) is one of the best Star Wars books ever written…sure it’s the middle of a series, but the twists and turns in this book put it head and shoulders above the rest.

We’ve been tracking, reading and reviewing the Fate of the Jedi series since 2008, when Lucasfilm first announced the series. The first Fate of the Jedi book: Outcast – was ok, but not great. Book two – Omen – was awesome. Book 3 – Abyss – was weak. Book 4 – Backlash also weak.

Now book 5 – Allies – the book immediately preceding this one was interesting, but unsatisfying.

In contrast to those first five books, we have nothing but praise for Vortex. The writing is amazing and kept us turning page after page. The courtroom stuff with Tahiri which has been dragging on, was exceptional this time around.

the battle inside the Jedi Temple and the demise of Kenth Hamner …WOW…we didn’t see that one coming.
Luke battling Abeloth and the Sith Again? ok..we saw that coming but still cool.
Vestara killing Lord Tallon? no we didn’t see that.

But the best part is the fact that this book stuck to the tried and true Star Wars formula. We had multiple sub-plots that all come together in a big set of concurrent event. Hamner and the Jedi with the launch of the StealthX’s, the return of the Horn’s, Errant Venture’s attack on the Coruscant mirrors and Luke battling it out for his life.
WOW.

Author Troy Denning, knows what Star Wars fan want and he has delivered in spades with Conviction.

V – Malik Skinned! But wait we never see her as a Lizard?! January 18, 2011

ok V is a decent show, but it’s starting to get strung out a bit too much.

The skinning of Malik could have been our first real glimpse of a live V – tail, teeth and all…

but instead we just see some green skin.

the continuing trips of Anna to see Diana are dumb – ok your daughter will betray you…what else have you got to say?

Tyler only has half the DNA he’s supposed too?

And now the only remaining question is will Ryan betray the 5th column or will he doublecross Anna?

Star Trek Typhon Pact : Seize the Fire -AKA – Everything you ever wanted to know about the Gorn, but were afraid to ask January 3, 2011

Star Trek: Typhon Pact #2: Seize the Fire is technically speaking a Typhon Pact book – but really it’s mostly about our favorite starship – the Luna class – Titan – commanded by the mammal known as Captain Riker.

Seize the Fire benefits from the skilled hand of author Michael Martin who understands better than most how to craft true Star Trek tales.

From beginning to the end, this was one of the best Star Trek novels we’ve read all year with some twists, and a consistent sense of urgency and drama that made this book impossible to put down.

We’ve never really cared much for the Gorn, but this book will change that – we know have new insight into their cast system and their sense of honor and obligation to the ‘legal casters’.

The mystery of the Brama-Shiva artifact is also not yet done – and likely will re-emerge in another Titan tale, just like White-Blue – from the last Titan book – Star Trek Titan Synthesis – made a return in this book.

Not a whole lot of advancement in the Typhon Pact storyline though – at the end a Typhon Pact fleet is racing in … it’ll be interesting to see how this book ties into the great whole…

Doctor Who – Xmas Carol – Forget about Rudolph, it’s time for a flying shark!! December 30, 2010

Doctor Who: A Christmas Carol [HD] was easily the best Doctor Who Xmas episode in at least 20 years.

The ghost of xmas past/present/future idea was totally remade by having the good Doctor show the future ‘scrooge’ his past as his past was happening.

Astounding.

And how about that flying shark? Wow.

A little sad in the end, but that’s the added punch that makes the Matt Smith Doctor Who version that much better.

Craig Ferguson lost Doctor Who intro – AWESOME – It’s about the triumph of intellect over brute force December 3, 2010

We love Craig Ferguson.

And now that new footage that was ‘lost’ from the original broadcast last month of this doctor who show interview with Matt Smith has surfaced…we love Craig even more.

Apparently Ferguson’s producers told him 5 minutes before the show started that he didn’t have the legal rights to use the Doctor Who theme music – but luckily someone had a video recorder handy and recorded the ‘cold’ version before the actual broadcast.

In this little bit – Ferguson clearly explains why ‘geeks’ love the Doctor – because it’s about the triumph of intellect and romance over brute force and cynicism.

Sit back and enjoy!

now here is what actually aired .. now it all makes sense!

Caprica may have been canceled but the final episodes have been avail in Canada and we’ve now had the chance to watch some of ’em. The entire season 1.5 dvd is out in December.

Episode 13 is one such final episode…

We finally see the Cylons used for the purpose they were intended – to kill humans.

Sam Adama is the first human to use the Cylons that way and he gets the best greeting a Battlestar Galactica fan could ask for.

Task Completed

BY YOUR COMMAND.

Fringe is a great show, which is why it is so shocking that FOX is killing it off.

Oh they’re not killing it like the cowards at SyFy that cancel a show midway through a season then don’t air the final episode..

No FOX has a special kind of hell for Fringe

The hell called Friday night. No SciFi show ever survives the Friday night timeslot and Fringe won’t be the first.

Stargate Universe SGU – Malice – Is Gin really dead? November 20, 2010

Malice was a fine episode – all action from beginning to the end.

Shocking in a way that Gin was killed – perhaps even more shocking was that both Gin and the professor at the other end died. Shouldn’t it have been that just the body died and Gin would have been trapped on Earth in the parpalegic’s body?

Also the whole deal with the crew not being able to stop the clock seemed odd – Rush was able to drop out of FTL before without a clock so why was this time different?

Wow – what an awesome episode. Olivia saves Broyles son..

solves the case..

then realizes that she hasn’t and that there is a master crook still at large..

what a twist!!

And the FBI slip? Brilliant – the FBI  was disolved a decade ago on this side…so now what? I’m going home….

Let’s not forget the final frames..FINALLY Bolivia will be exposed for the fraud that she is…how could she not know what Casablanca is about?

Doctor Who: The Complete Fifth Series is now out on DVD – so Matt Smith is now making the talk show rounds.

Last night he showed up on Craig Ferguson (aka Mr. Wick from the Drew Carey show) The Late Late Show..

What a riot?

And Smith reveals something that we’ve never known about the Daleks before…

The Greater Good episode (–click to catch in Amazon), was one of the best episodes of SGU yet.

Finally, the crew get to see the bridge and FINALLY beat Rush at his own game.

nice.

But WTF is the nonsense about Destiny’s mission?  A mission to find…the construct behind the background cosmic radiation??

DESTINY is on a Mission to Find GOD.

Remind anyone of Star Trek V? (and yeaah that movie sucked).

If Destiny’s mission really is about finding the higher power behind the big bang — this show could suffer…

That said, we’re worried about Gin — and given the dark slant of this show, she’s likely in a world of trouble.

Meanwhile in the Tardis – Doctor Who does stuff November 9, 2010

The BBC has releases a set of really funny and interesting out-takes from Matt Smith’s first season as Doctor Who –with the lovely Amy Pond in tow of course.

An interesting discussion on why the Tardis is a police box..and does the Doctor have to change the light on the top? And does he feel stupid about traveling in a wooden box?

Then there is an un-released scene from the Vampire of Venice episode – with Amy hitting on the Doctor — funny stuff for sure, but we can see why it got cut from the episode that aired. Then again, Amy (as always) does make a good point about the simple fact that all of the Doctor’s companions have been women…

Quinlan Vos Comes to Star Wars Clone Wars animated November 3, 2010

Quinlan Vos is one of the greatest Jedi ever created by Dark Horse — and until now he has exclusively existed only in the comic books.

But now at long last he’s coming to TV in Season 3 of the Clone Wars!

Quinlan is cool because he’s kinda like Cade Skywalker (Legacy) in that he’s got powers like a Sith but he’s got a good heart. He’s been to the Dark Side (and back), but the difference btwn Light and Dark can be a blur for him.
