Star Wars: Legacy #14–Claws of the Dragon pt. 1 is the first issue of a new story arc in which we will finally find out who Darth Krayt really is .

This is yet another awesome issue that is brilliant drawn and written. Cade Skywalker makes his way to Coruscant where he is ultimately captured by the Sith. It is also painfully obvious that Cade is more comfortable with a blaster than with using the force, something that isn’t a suprise I suppose since he did leave his Jedi roots behind for many years.

Though this issue is a stepping to stone to issue 15 – which is likely one of the most highly anticipated Star Wars comic book releases in a generation – it’s still worthy of much merit and praise.

We learn that Darth Krayt is dying and that Cade Skywalker may be his only chance for survival.
The Mynock (Cade’s ship) has got some info on it and thnx to a friendly Hutt, that info is going to fall into friendly hands.

Oh and the art…WOW…we see the first real shots of Coruscant in the Legacy era and of the Legacy era Tie Fighter (which are sort of like Tie Interceptors on steroids).

That said…i can hardly contain my enthusiasm for issue 15. FINALLLY we’ll find out who Darth Krayt is.

I wonder if anyone in the ShowMeSciFi discussion forum is actually right.

Farscape is coming Back!!

No it’s not going to be a sequel to The PeaceKeeper Wars – how would you do a sequel to that anyways?

Apparently the new Farscape series will be an online only thing with a series of web based short episodes that will appear on SCIFI.COM’s SCI FI Pulse broadband network.

So far SCI FI has ordered 10 webisodes of Farscape, to be produced by Brian Henson and Robert Halmi Jr. and produced by The Jim Henson Co., in association with RHI Entertainment.

The only details on the show available so far are that it will somehow ‘expand the Farscape universe’. Beyond that no word on when the show will appear or who will appear in it.

Considering that both Ben Browder and Claudia Black are now available again since SG-1 is mostly done and neither of them will be full time regulars on Stargate Atlantis..we might see them again too..

First there was a PS2 game which wasn’t too bad at all ..then there was the unofficial (but really great) Beyond the Red Line Game.

Now it looks like a small Battlestar Galactica game is coming the XBOX360 – but don’t worry about having to rush out to your local retailer to buy it..it’s so dinky you’ll just be able to download it from the Live Arcade.

Sign up to defend the Galactica, or play as the ruthless Cylons as they seek to remove the human menace from existence. Take part in enormous multiplayer space battles – up to 8 players online – or play through the single-player campaign.

Overall if early reports are to be believed – it could be a pretty decent arcade shooter.

We’ve all seen the ‘inspirational’ posters in local malls..the Star Trek variety are a bit more interesting for those of us that prefer Trek.

It’s a great idea with some really keen satire too.

Check them all out on the full Star Trek Inspirational Posters site.

SciFi showed a 30 second preview of the upcoming movie Battlestar Galactica Razor – set to air in November.

AWESOME.

War Is Our Imperative. So We Will Fight – Admiral Cain in Razor.

I see this movie based on the trailer – as a copycat approach of the Babylon 5 movie ‘In the Beginning’ (which was awesome too). Originally we thought that this movie would be all about Battlestar Pegasus, but it looks like its really about the origin of the war itself – which got an ok treatment in the mini-series- but will get a different viewpoint in the Razor movie.

Without any further ado..here’s the trailer that aired last night on Scifi. Enjoy.

Star Trek Strange New Worlds Contest discontinued by Simon and Shuster July 10, 2007

After 10 magnificent years of the most interesting contest in Star Trek lore, publisher Simon and Shuster is pulling the plug on the Strange New Worlds contest.

Volume 10 available now, is the last one.

This is the contest that allowed anyone to submit their short Star Trek fiction and have a shot at publication. By ending this publication Simon and Shuster is cutting the heart out of amateur writers that want to break into the game.

There is nothing else like this contest currently available. The discontinuation of this series is a disaster and morbid day for all Star Trek fans.

Ten years ago Pocket Books offered Star Trek fans a unique opportunity. Long before the Internet, Star Trek fans had written their own stories, which they then shared among friends and family. Now, the fans were offered a chance to become a part of the Star Trek mythos. A contest sponsored by Pocket Books would publish and pay for the best stories submitted by non-professional writers. And over the course of a decade, hundreds of pounds of submissions poured in. Many of the writers who submitted to Strange New Worlds went on to become professional writers.

As of 2007, we will be discontinuing the publication of Strange New Worlds.

Pocket Books is proud to have sponsored the only contest of this kind ever offered to the readers of their books. And over the years with the co-operation of Paramount Pictures, and now CBS Consumer Products, Pocket Books has published ten volumes of short stories “by the fans for the fans.” We would like to thank everyone who ever submitted a story to Strange New Worlds, and everyone who worked behind-the-scenes to make it all happen.

Why is this successful contest being terminated? We don’t know. All we know is that the Star Trek franchise is once again FRAKKING over its fans.

Back in February Hasbro announced the Show Us Your Lightsaber contest on YouTube..i have to admit that I totally forgot about it ..until i came across the group today.

I didn’t miss much.

The group only netted 42 videos most of them unwatchable including the winner which is so pathetic that I will not link to it on this blog. None of the vids went viral and none (expect for hasbro’s only trailer) had more than 2,000 views with the majority (including the pathetic winner) at well under 1,000.

The only one that I like was the Saber of Ra – linked below – it’s well done and it sure is unique.

Toronto Star Wars Fan mounts -unofficial Star Wars exhibit at Design Exchange July 8, 2007

Lucas is obsessive about his trademarks. Over the years there have been many Star Wars tributes and exhibits at museums around the globe but i’ve never EVER heard of one being mounted (in a very public gallery that charges admission) without the consent of Lucasfilm.

Yet that’s what’s happening in Toronto this summer.

The official citation for the event as listed on the event venue’s site states:

Ian A. Anthony Presents: Assembling a Galaxy
June 29 – August 25, 2007

Celebrate 30 years of Star Wars with “Assembling a Galaxy.” An exciting exhibition of a fantastic array of objects gathered from times long ago and places far, far away. Assembling a Galaxy is an educational exhibit not affiliated with nor supported by Lucasfilm Limited. Not an official exhibit.

Yet the Design Exchange (the venue) has issued a very official looking press release which does not mention that it is not a LucasFilm sanctioned event. While this site is all about fandom and I certainly celebrate those in Star Wars fandom – to have an event at a museum that you charge admission for that does not have any sort of Lucas involvement is a bit ‘offsetting’ to say the least.(I probably have more stuff in my basement anyways…maybe i should put on a show..)

That said – it’ll be an exhibit that ShowMeSciFi will be sure to check out next time we’re in Toronto…though a quick trip to eBay might be the same thing..

Anthony (the event ‘curator’) started the majority of his collecting, valued at $15,000, in 2005. He has found most of the unique items on eBay, such as an autographed stormtrooper helmet from Albin Johnson, founder of the 501st Legion, a group dedicated to creating authentic imperial uniforms.

Star Wars Legacy Of The Force Fury is the 7th book in the series and is likely all about Ben Skywalker going nuts as he realizes that Darth Caedus murdered his mama.

It is currently set for release November 27, 2007 and yes first in paperback.

*UPDATED* Star Wars Legacy Of The Force Inferno is the the sixth book in this excellent series..it follows Sacrifice, Exile, Betrayal , Bloodlines and Tempest).

The official publication date is set for August 28, 2007 and as opposed to Sacrifice this title will be available first in paperback (woohoo).

It looks like it’s Luke Skywalker on the cover. Certainly there is alot of ground to cover as Mara Jade’s killer needs to be discovered and as the Sith begin to cement their hold on the galaxy.

Luke Skywalker wanted to unify the Jedi order and bring peace to the universe. Instead his wife Mara lies dead at the hands of an unknown assassin, his wayward nephew has seized control of the Galactic Alliance, and the galaxy has exploded in all-out civil war.

With Luke consumed by grief, Jacen Solo works quickly to consolidate his power and jumpstart his plan to take over the Jedi. Convinced he’s the only one who can save the galaxy, Jacen will do whatever it takes, even ambush his own parents.

With the Rebel confederacy driving deep into the Core to attack Coruscant and the Jedi under siege, Luke must reassert his position. Only he can lead the Jedi through this crisis, but it means solving the toughest problem Luke’s ever faced. Does he fight alongside his nephew Jacen, a tyrant who’s taken over the GA, or does he join the rebels to smash the Galactic Alliance he helped create?

I can hardly wait!

Keeper of a terrible secret, addled inventor Camper spent most of his life running from Adascorp, the most powerful organization on his homeworld of Arkania. Now he lies gravely ill aboard the Arkanian Legacy, the colossal flagship of the corporation, his life in the hands of its owner-Lord Adasca! Does the young lord really intend to cure Camper and make amends for his predecessors’ relentless hunt of the old man?

After 17 issues, I’m not sure that i ever really cared much about Camper at all. This new storyline brings some relevance to him and apparently will also shed light on his big secret. What is it? Who knows – I can’t even speculate since this series has been so awful lately.

Artwork continues to be a problem with characters continuing to be drawn totally differently from issue to issue. I guess DArk Horse isn’t doing much quality control on this book.

The cover art is also misleading – they never do threaten to leave Zayne behind – but i do like this new approach of pulling out a cell and making it a cover.

KOTOR still is the weakest link in Dark Horse’s Star Wars lineup – we still don’t have a clue – 17 issues later what’s going on with Zayne and the deaths of his fellow padawans. Maybe that’s something the writers are stringing out in hopes to maintain readership. Personally i’d much rather see some kind of big resolution and then move on.

This issue is neither better nor worse than issue number 16 – here’s to hoping that eventually someone at Dark Horse will either get the message or kill this series.

I KNOW..a bit late but ..

Finally saw Chad Vader Episode 8 which apparently is the end of season 1. This was definitely the weakest episode of the bunch..(I strongly submit that Chad Vader Episode 6 is the best by far) but still it does tie up the ‘plot’ with Chad regaining the day shift manager position at the market.

Lucas Arts has confirmed that Star Wars Lego – The Complete Saga will be available for the Wii this fall.Star Wars Lego could well be the first Star Wars game for the Wii and it will be interesting to see how far Lucas Arts goes to actually support the Wiimote and the Numchuck.

No this won’t be Star Wars The Force Unleashed but hey..the Wii may make this real interesting.

At last weekends’ Celebration Event in LA new details emerged about the highly anticipated next gen Lucas Arts Game The Force Unleashed. The game is set for a November release and falls in between Episodes III and IV with the player being Darth Vader’s Secret Apprentice hunting down Jedi.

Lucas has put up a new documentary that goes above and beyond what was detailed at Celebration – check it out below…No its not KOTOR – but it could be something even better.

30 years ago our world changed..dramatically.

It wasn’t that long ago was it? It couldn’t have been that far away…

BUT IT WAS.

I remember very well the first time i saw Star Wars in 1977. I remember wondering how they managed to get camera’s into outer space to film the sequences.

Beyond any shadow of a doubt Star Wars is the greatest film of all time. It introduces us to The Force
Jedi
Sith
Darth Vader
Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Han Solo (and yes HAN SHOT FIRST!).

Did Star Wars re-invigorate SciFi?? Of course it did. Without Star Wars, Star Trek The Movie never would have happened, there wouldn’t have been Battlestar Galactica or Buck Rodgers (tv version) either or even the Flash Gordon movie. SciFi would have remained a niche play, incapable of truly being mainstream.

Star Wars proved that SciFi – good scifi that looked real is something that everyone wants. SciFi wasn’t just for geeks anymore but became part of mainstream culture in a way that no other SciFi movie ever had done before.

Thank you Mr. Lucas and Happy 30th Anniversary. May The Force Be With You

Thnx to jwash24 who posted as a comment. ShowMeSciFi has now been able to independently verify that indeed Darth Caedus is Jacen Solo’s Sith name.

Jacen’s Sith name was chosen by a contest and follows his long descent into the dark side in the Legacy of the Force series (which is the most awesome Star Wars series in years if not of ALL TIME).

He takes his Sith name in Sacrifice set to come out in just a few weeks, but early copies are all already being leaked by the publisher.

So who does Jacen have to Sacrifice to get his Sith name…i could hardly believe it myself (and if you really want to know just look at the cover of the book and it’s quite obvious)..and i’m actually going to suspend dis-belief if you don’t mind until i get my hands on a copy of Sacrifice on May 29th.

*UPDATE* Got a copy of this on May 28th

Here’s the line you have to wait 367 pages to get too..

“Now was the time for a man who’d once been Jacen Solo to shoulder that responsibility for the galaxy’s sake.

Jacen took off the helmet, looked into his own eyes and didn’t flinch.

“Caedus,” he said. “My name is Darth Caedus.”

FINALLY.

I was beginning to think that Dark Horse’s Dark Times was on the path to nowhere..but apparently it’s now back.

There was a huge gap time wise between the release of issue number one and two – reviewed here.and there was another long gap of several months between issue two and this issue.

Long gaps aren’t good for readership Dark Horse!

Excellent art in this book..basic kind of story that’s just barely shaping up …if they can get this out on a regular basis this could turn into something really great. Right now the only real interesting part is Vader’s reluctance with Palpatine’s wishes..this book occurs in the early years after Episode III and before Episode IV so it’s an interesting period to explore to say the least.
