Fringe – Agent Francis The Shapeshifter shot in the head October 8, 2009

Finally we know what Leonard Nimoy – william bell – told Olivia in the parallel universe.

yeaah it’s a little weird – a war is coming powered by shapeshifting biomechanical hybrids that have mercury in their veins.

And yeaah now we know that someone else knows that Peter belongs on the other side.

But the thing we’ll miss most is Agent Charlie Francis. Sure he’s actually been dead for a while since the shapeshifter took over the body, but still.

The character was a great one a friend for Olivia and another agent in the FBI that had some personality.

flashforwardAnother great episode of FlashForward tonight…the whole letting the Nazi go thing was a little uncomfortable..

BUT

The crows connection was kinda cool. I have not read the Sawyer book, so I don’t know how closely ABC is following along.

AT this stage of the show, i’m hooked so i don’t want to read the book (yet..but I will).

death.troopersYeaah a book trailer.  It’s actually a great idea that book publishers (and comic publishers) should consider doing more often.

With Star Wars Death Troopers, the trailers are fan made as a result of a Del-Ray sponsored contest.

We’ll save the time and embed the best one below.  You can go vote for this one yourself over at the delray contest site too. Voting starts on October 9th and will run through October 22.

The Death Troopers book itself is out on Oct 13th

Winds of Dune : REVIEW. Bronso gets distilled October 6, 2009

winds.of.dune The Winds of Dune is the last sequel — or rather midquel – in the ongoing extended Dune series.

This book follows Paul of Dune by publication – and was originally supposed to be called Jessica of Dune. Why that name changed I don’t know.

This books is about Jessica from beginning to end. It is perhaps the most personal Jessica Atreides novel ever written as it deals with her own struggle to reconcile the legacy of her son and get along with her daughter

The secondary story – the trials of Bronso of Ix was also kinda cool and the way he met his end was shocking.

The world of Dune keeps on adding new chapters, thanks to Anderson and Herbert. Some might not like the additions, but personally I do. They keep bringing me back to Arrakis, to Paul and to Shai-Halud.

The devil – as always is in the details. Much of this book, plain and simple is filler that didn’t need to be there. Were it not for our love of all things Dune (and the need to write a review), we honestly might have given up on this book mid-way because of the extra cruft.

In the end, the journey was worthwhile and Winds of Dune is a decent read.

Dollhouse : Season 2 Instinct. Where is Dr. ‘Whisky’ Saunders? October 5, 2009

dollhouse So far Season 2 of Dollhouse has been a bit…odd.

We still don’t know what happened to Alpha and we don’t really know what deal Echo and Agent Ballard came up with.

Those unknowns really make this season VERY annoying to us.

That said, last Friday’s episode Instinct opened up some new ground.  Topher has now figured out a way to make the Doll’s imprint so powerful that it can overcome a wipe event. That’s the nature of the mother’s protective instinct.

It’s a really interesting premise that motherhood transcends the other human instincts.

Where the Dollhouse goes from here…who knows..with SGU now on Friday nights, I’d bet that the Dollhouse ends up the loser.

Stargate Universe SGU : Destiny is the 9th Chevron October 5, 2009

sgu The pilot episode of Stargate Universe (Air ) was unlike any other Stargate pilot yet wasn’t it?

Finding Eli by way of a Last Starfighter type contest is a wickedly cool idea and one that will make him very different then Dr. McKay as a problem solver.

But first off, why was the Icarus base attacked? That part didn’t make sense. The attackers never made any claims, we never say them on screen – we just saw their ships. It was cool to see the USS General Hammond though wasn’t it?

The idea of a ninth chevron transporting to a ship is really cool though. The Destiny is unlike any other ancient ship we’ve ever seen.

But the bit about it being unmanned and then there being other ships that had gone before it to build Gates was a bit weak. If the other ships have already built a gate system then why send a ship?

That little plot issue aside, the characters in SGU are great. They are unlike the typical SG-1 and SG-Atlantis archetypes and really do create a different vibe for this show.

With the one military guy that was imprisoned (what was his deal?) the quick death of the Senator (kinda like the Col dying in the pilot of Atlantis) and a lack of air on the ship – we already have a few mysteries that will keep this show interesting for a few weeks.

Yes there are some holes in this show and it’s not perfect. But it is pretty frakkin cool to have Stargate back in a fresh new and innovative show.

*if you missed the show live Amazon has it now up on demand Air

The Women of Stargate Universe talk with THE woman of SG-1 October 2, 2009

As opposed to SG-1, where Amanda Tapping aka Col Samantha Carter was the only female role,  Stargate Universe has three big female roles in the show.

That makes SGU a bit different doesn’t it?

Tapping sat down for lunch with the SGU gals for an interesting conversation for the most part.

They talk about the roles, about their love (or not so much) of SciFi and the role that good music plays in making Science Fiction shows work.

fringe.2aha!

Sooo there is a solid connection between the Watcher and the other universe.

The little side show in this second episode of season 2 of Fringe(Fracture
)  with Col. Gordon was kinda neat in that he was been hunting the watcher on his own.

why he felt the need to blow ppl up just because the guy had a briefcase full of picture of Walter is beyond me though. That was just dumb.

Finally!

Stargate is back!!

After we lost Stargate Atlantis the universe has been a dark place with no Jaffar, Wraith or other races to watch week in and week out.

Now Stargate Universe is finally on – tonight.

Will this just be the Stargate version of Star Trek Voyager? Early trailers make it look a whole lot darker, but the similarities with Voyager cannot be overlooked.

A ship stranded far from home with a commander determined to bring them back. Let’s hope the show producers keep it fresh, give us some of our regular Stargate goodness and a whole lot of new stuff.

We can hardly wait.

flashforwardsecond episode of flash forward was another great episode.

The little girl is the new hero of the show isn’t she?

Her final line in the episode – D Gibbons is a Bad Man – was just brilliant. It took everyone, including us by surprise. She is the key to understanding what’s going on.

And what was going on in the Dollhouse? Was that guy – Suspect 1 – part of the plot?

Nice pacing throughout, great characters and a deep plot. This show is a winner.

Let’s just hope that ABC doesn’t cancel this show.

Good news for Warhammer 40,000 fans. A new movie is coming.

Yeaah it’s just a CGI based direct to DVD deal, but hey nothing wrong with that is there?

“Over the years, we have been approached again and again by all sorts of producers and film companies wanting to take our intellectual property to the screen. We have always believed that, in the right hands, the stories, themes and characters from the Warhammer 40,000 universe would lend themselves perfectly to the movie genre,”Erik Mogensen, Licensing and Acquired Rights Manager for Games Workshop, said in a statement. “We’re working closely with the talented team at Codex Pictures, who have an excellent understanding of the Warhammer 40,000 intellectual property and an inspired vision for the movie. We can’t wait to see our universe come to life on-screen.”

If they came make a full length of the quality that Warhammer 40 K game trailers have..we might have one heck of a movie.

Chad Vader S2 Ep8: Bandito Beatdown

is a return to form for Chad Vader.

This is meaningless crazy nonsense at its best.
The marshmellow bandito is so stoooopid it’s funny. And who doesn’t want to see vader fight the pillsbury dough boy?

The big setup in this episode is that Randy the night shift manager is going to kill someone because his doll – baby cookie – is going to ask him too.

I wonder who it will be…

V will only have 4 episodes in 2009. ABC Fraks over SciFi fans, again September 29, 2009

ABC sure knows how to kill a good SciFi show before it even starts.

A report in Variety today has confirmed that ABC will only air four (4) episodes of V this year.

That means the show will start – on November 3rd – and then effectively die.

The show is supposed to start up again in March, but what the frak is the point?

Four episodes and then cut us off? WTF is ABC’s problem?

Yes i know the Olympics are in early 2010, but that doesn’t mean V shouldn’t be on. Why couldn’t there be more episodes this year?

To put on a show, only air 4 episode then give your audience ‘the finger’ is what ABC is doing. They are tell us, the Science Fiction loving public, that they don’t care, they’re just filling in time slots.

dollhouseWTF? Did we miss something?

The first episode of season two doesn’t follow from the last episode of season one.

At the end of the last season we had Alpha on the run and Ballard had just come in. Now?

Is this all some conspiracy to get us to buy season one on DVD?

THAT SUX.

And how could Echo get married to Jamie Bamber (Apollo – and oh he was great wasn’t he?) so fast? She wasn’t a doll for him – so was she a doll for ballard for months? years? to get the bad guy to marry her?

Yes it’s cool to have Ballard on the inside.

Yes it’s weird that Whiskey is a nutcase and has this love/hate thing with Topher.

No it’s not cool that we don’t know what happened to Alpha unless to line Joss Whedon’s pockets with more money. It’s a frakkin recession out there man.

but hey if you want to just buy the missing 13th episode from Dollhouse Season 1 – Amazon has it for $1.99 Epitaph One

fringe.2The second episode of Fringe Season 2 was another fine episode.

Sure we had another mutant thing – and yes there are too many mutants in Fringe overall – but still it was interesting.

The Faux Francis character is neat too, still getting instruction via the mirror and now instead of trying to kill Olivia he is befriending her.

What was so important that William Bell told Olivia in the parallel universe?

And whatever happened to discussions about The Pattern? In the beginning of the show that was the whole mystery. We’ve not heard much about it in a while..maybe Bell and the Pattern are related.

flashforward

Flash Forward ‘s debut episode on ABC was pretty cool.

Actors we’re all great and the story was solid.

Why did they all flash? And why did they all Flash Forward to April 29, 2010 at 10 PM ??

No I haven’t read the book yet (Flashforward), though now i’m really tempted too. Though the book and the TV show apparently do not directly align with each other.

The other big questions at this early point are : Why 2 mins 17 seconds ?

I think the visualization of what would happen to our planet if everyone blanked out for 2 mins 17 seconds was amazing. First you think so what? right?

But with everyone on earth in cars, things moving about if you black out – chaos everyone that looked like a war zone.

How long this show will last..who knows..but for now at least I’m hooked.

Sure we love Chad, but this was kinda lame (watch for yourself below).

Long story short, Libby gets deported ..boohoo.

But we get a new villian the marshmellow bandito..yeaah it’s kinda lame too.

We need an emperor type or maybe a wookie or something funny and satirical tied to scifi

Defying Gravity – Beta is a fractal life form September 21, 2009

What is beta? Now we know.

ABC may have toasted Defying Gravity, but CTV in Canada hasn’t.

In fact CTV has aired the episode that everyone in the U.S wanted to see,the one where beta is finally revealed.

so here’s the spoiler — beta is an alien fractal life form.

It’s one of eight -and was found on Earth. The other seven objects are found on the planets that Antares are headed too. That is the real mission of ship.

The Alpha site – is Mars – Actually the same site where Donner lost Sharon years prior – as that was the true original mars mission too.

So the whole truth is now out, CTV will have a few more episodes where we’ll find out about beta’s true intentions…we still don’t know that…

Battlestar Galactica : The Second Coming. The Best BSG Movie We’ve Never Seen September 18, 2009

Ron Moore’s re-imagined Battlestar Galactica was great show until the final episode, but still we wish for the original don’t we?

As it turns out Richard Hatch (the original Apollo) tried in 1999 to get a new SG series on the air that would maintain the original 1978 show’s canon and history.

He apparently had 30 minutes of final footage which has never been shown publicly. But there is also a 4 minute trailer that give us a taste of the greatness that it could have been.

Many of the original BSG actors are in this and the SFX aren’t too bad either. I wish that Hatch would release the final 30 minutes, I’d pay to see it and I’d bet millions of other fans would too.
